Internet predators 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I recently found my daughter’s MySpace account. I couldn’t believe what I found. How should I protect my children from internet predators or just plain old teenaged perverts?

I have known about the dangers of the internet for years and have found that talking to my kids about the latest developments of internet predators is very effective in combating the problem. It seems like they bring more to my attention now than I bring to theirs.

My account is set to private and I made the mistake of not accurately scrutinizing a user that I thought I recognized. The person turned out to be a complete freak and I had to block them. Good luck.

In our house we fully monitor our kids browsing history as well as not allowing the laptop, or any computer for that matter, in their rooms. This seems to work for now. You as we do, must always remember that they get smarter each day and better with the computer than us at some point.

I work for an internet company and spend much time browsing for research purposes. I can say with certainty that allowing your child on Myspace is no different than allowing them to talk with random strangers from the comfort of your home. The dangers are even greater than that scenario will lead you to believe. Keep them away from it.

I have 4 children, all with accounts on Myspace. They are all set to private and monitored by me, regularly. So far this line of defense of mine has been successful in creating compromise between my husband and I and our kids.
